About French Music
Where does French music come from? Heaven, of course. France, Belgium and other countries where French is spoken; places where France has had a cultural influence through the diaspora of its people, as in eastern Canada and Louisiana USA; wherever France has had a presence as a colonial ruler, and around the world, as musicians have been inspired by the diverse genres of French music.
Those genres include chanson, French gypsy guitar and violin (manouche and other sub-genres), musette accordion, American-inspired French jazz, and other categories that defy definition.
